...A Step Ahead

It's already been a couple of years since the Accord was completely redesigned, yet it's still a step ahead of most rivals in overall interior appointments. For those who want more of a performance feel, the Accord Sedan is one of few to offer a manual transmission with a V6 engine. All three of the engines are refined and fuel-efficient, while base LX and LX-P models look like a remarkable bargain for those who want a reasonably stylish sedan with low running costs. The Accord maintains an enviable reputation for longevity, reliability, and excellent resale value, which makes it hard to beat for those hoping to keep their car for many years. And for those interested in the coupe, it sacrifices a little bit of space and convenience but gets a rakish silhouette and most of the sedan's practicality.

Power & Performance

The powertrain lineup in the front-wheel-drive Accord consists of three different engines and three transmission possibilities. Standard on the base Accord Sedan LX and LX-P is a 177-horsepower, 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine, while Sedan EX, EX-L, and Accord Coupe LX-S, EX, and EX-L get a 190-horsepower version of the same engine. EX V6 and EX-L models get a 271-hp, 3.5-liter V6 engine. Four-cylinder engines are paired with a standard 5-speed manual gearbox or optional 5-speed automatic, while most V6 models get the automatic; a 6-speed manual is available.

Either of the two 4-cylinder engines in the Accord provides reasonably fast acceleration and a peppy, responsive feel overall, especially with the manual transmission. The combination of manual transmission and V6 is a relative rarity in a mid-size sedan, bringing more of a performance feel to the Accord. All three engines use Honda's i-VTEC system, which helps keep the engine smooth and responsive both at low revs or during high-speed passing. The V6 gets Variable Cylinder Management, which cuts off half of the cylinders when cruising to aid efficiency. Both engines get commendable fuel economy.

The 2010 Honda Accord is one of the better-handling mid-size sedans, thanks to a well-tuned double-wishbone front suspension and multi-link rear setup, along with rack-and-pinion steering that's very precise and responsive.

Along with performance and smoothness, interior appointments are an Accord strength. The instrument panel features a curvy, distinctive design, and controls are quite intuitive and upper trims include steering-wheel controls. Upper trims also come with plush-looking, leather-upholstered 2-tone themes and rich materials. While base models have the same design themes, they are done in stylish, but more drab, plastic. Across the board, seating is comfortable and supportive, with a back seat that's large enough to fit three adults across in a pinch. In all models, the rear seatback folds forward to expand trunk space, and there's also a lockable pass-through.

Coupe models are several inches shorter and a couple of inches lower than the sedan, so they come with a slightly different seating arrangement, with a smaller back seat and more restricted headroom. Access to the back seat is easier than most coupes thanks to the long doors, but those doors might prove difficult in tight parking situations.

Honda's newly upgraded navigation system has voice-activation functions and has an attractive high-contrast color screen. Zagat guidebook information and ratings is now integrated. Other features on top models of the Accord include a 270-watt premium sound system with XM satellite radio, a 6-disc changer and subwoofer.

From the base Accord LX Sedan to the top-of-the-line Accord EX-L V-6 Coupe, the Accord spans a wide range in price and equipment. The LX Sedan comes with all the basics and a bit more, including air conditioning, cruise control, power accessories, a tilt/telescopic steering wheel, and keyless entry, but at the top of the range features include such items as heated leather seats, big 18-inch alloy wheels, and upgraded trim.

The 2010 Honda Accord comes with all the requisite safety features, including electronic stability control, anti-lock brakes with brake assist, front side airbags, side curtain bags and front-seat active head restraints.

2010 Accord Crosstour

Say hello to the modern vehicle. Smooth and sporty, with utility to spare, the all-new Accord Crosstour is a refreshingly new way to think about vehicles. The Crosstour offers a commanding view, and comfortable seating for five. The sloping rear tailgate opens to reveal a spacious cargo area. The 60/40 split rear seatback is spring-activated, and levers can be easily reached from the cabin or from the rear cargo area.11 A removable, water-resistant under-floor utility box is just right for stashing gear. Plus, the carpeted rear floor panels can be flipped hard-side-up for durability. It’s a whole new way to get ahead.

2010 Accord Sedan

A deeper connection. From the way the driver’s seat holds your body to the way the audio buttons feel to your touch, there’s a reason for everything. Nothing is superfluous. Nothing seems like an afterthought. Inside the Accord, man and machine have never been more in tune. Factor in rousing performance and legendary Honda quality and it’s no wonder the Accord has made the Car and Driver “10Best” list 24 out of the last 28 years.

2010 Accord Coupe

An icon of simplicity and style. More than just steel, aluminum, rubber and glass, the Honda Accord is a collection of ideas. Like the belief that being responsible and having fun are not mutually exclusive. Or that the proper hierarchy in automotive design is man first and machine second. Or that innovative engine technology can result in both power and efficiency. Ingeniously simple. Emphatically human. Fantastically fun. The Accord is not just a car, it’s a mission statement.

The Honda Accord has captured the "Best Residual Value Award for the Midsize Segment" from ALG. As one of the best barometers of the quality one can expect from a vehicle, the residual value should be top-of-mind for any car shopper. James Clark from ALG states, "We continue to believe that residual value is the best metric for evaluating the overall strength of an automotive brand." With its sleek lines and mile-after-mile dependability, the Accord is an excellent choice for today and tomorrow.

For a record 24th time, the January issue of Car and Driver magazine has named the Honda Accord one of the 10Best Cars. An amazing record but not surprising when you consider the exceptional qualities the Accord has to offer, including an exceptional ride quality. As Car and Driver puts it, "In '08, the redesigned Accord sedan vaulted into the EPA's large-car domain yet retained the taut, square-jawed underpinnings that make it so gratifyingly competent to drive."[1] And when you throw the sporty Accord Coupe V-6 into the mix, the driving enthusiasts at Car and Driver had even more reasons to celebrate, "Row through the velvety manual six-speed—barking the front tires something fierce as you shift into second—and 60 mph manifests in 5.6 seconds[1]."

Kelley Blue Book’s kbb.com, the trusted automotive information resource, has honored the 2010 Accord with its Best Resale Value Award in the Mid-Size Car category. This prestigious award is given to vehicles that are expected to have the best resale value after five years of ownership.

Over the years, the Accord has won numerous prestigious awards in the automobile industry. But we designed the Accord for everyday people, not industry analysts, so it was especially gratifying to be honored with an Edmunds' Inside Line 2009 Readers' Most WantedSM Vehicle Award[2]. The Accord was singled out as the most wanted vehicle in the "Family Under $30,000”category. Here’s what a few readers had to say about it: "Because it's a standard of quality and reliability and that's what a family car should be." "Best family sedan on the planet." Comments like these from people like you make this one of the "Most Wanted" awards that we’ve ever received.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has rated the 2010 Accord Coupe five stars (its highest rating) for both driver and front passenger in the frontal-crash test[3]. These frontal crash-test ratings are a testament to the advanced safety engineering that comes standard on every Accord.

Honda has a long history of environmental leadership, including the introduction of America's first mass-produced hybrid, the Honda Insight, and the first vehicle to meet California's Low-Emission-Vehicle standards, well in advance of regulatory requirements. Acknowledgment of our commitment to innovation can be seen by Honda's topping the rankings as the country's greenest automaker by the Union of Concerned Scientists (UCS)?for the fourth time in a row[4].

Recently, Polk recognized Honda for having the highest owner loyalty of any brand[5]. This means Honda had the highest percentage of households return to purchase another Honda—more than any other car brand.
